Courses For traditional photographers, amateur or professional, beginner, intermediate or advanced, youngsters or adults, these courses are designed to support you in your pursuit of the art of traditional photography. We offer five-week courses for in-depth training, three-hour basic and refresher courses and Saturday workshops to fit any schedule! Photoworks offers darkrooms that meet and exceed the industry standards in facilities, equipment and design. Our Kreonite color processor, capable of making prints up to 30" x 40" is the only one of its kind in the southwestern United States available to the public. Photoworks' darkrooms are outfitted with 8 the top-of-the-line, Saunders LPL dichroic enlargers and 2 Saunders LPL condenser enlargers. We also have 4 spacious individual darkrooms with Saunders LPL 4550 XLG dichroic enlargers for prints up to 30" x 40". We provide all of the equipment and chemistry, and you supply your own paper, canned air and a towel. Photoworks comprehensive five-week darkroom photography courses include: Basic Black and White Photography Monday evenings, 6:30pm - 10:00pm November 6 - December 4, 2000 Instructor: Joseph Hyde Learn the principles of black and white photography through the study of cameras, film exposure, print processing and print presentation. Develop a personal vision through hands-on experience and broaden your technical knowledge. Tuition: $320 Chemical Fee: $40 (Supply list provided upon registration) The BIG Print Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm - 10:00pm November 1 - December 6, 2000 No class on November 22nd (Thanksgiving weekend) This class limited to four students. Instructor: Joseph Hyde It's true! Bigger is better! If you have ever wanted to see one of your color or black and white photographs printed extra large, this is the class for you. Expert mural printer Joseph Hyde will teach you to make prints from 16 x 20" to 30 x 40". Learn how to safely handle large paper, make accurate tests, and process your final prints. Through lectures and demonstrations, get all the information you need to produce mural prints now and into the future. Tuition: $360 Chemical Fee: $115 (Supply list provided upon registration) Platinum/Palladium Printing Thursday evenings, 6:30pm - 10pm November 9 - December 14, 2000 No class on November 23rd (Thanksgiving weekend) Instructor: Jim DuSel Platinum/Palladium printing is the time-honored process used by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Alfred Stieglitz and Paul Strand to create lush archival images. The superb tones, intriguing image color, and seductive paper surface are all enhanced by this photographic, hands-on printmaking experience. Learn to hand-coat the rich cotton paper with platinum/palladium emulsion and contact print your silver image utilizing ultra-violet light. Tuition: $320 Lab Fee: $90 (Supply list provided upon registration) Three-hour refresher and basic darkroom photography courses: Refresher in Color Friday evening, 6:30pm - 9:30pm November 10, 2000 Instructor: Julia Nicoll For those of you who have experience printing in color, but feel uneasy about starting out again, we offer this three-hour refresher course. This course reviews creating color contact sheets and color enlargements. Bring an exposed and processed roll of color negative film to class. Tuition covers paper and chemistry. Tuition: $75 Refresher in Black and White Friday evening, 6:30 pm - 9:30pm December 22, 2000 Instructor: Julia Nicoll For those of you who have experience in the darkroom but feel uneasy about starting out again, we offer this one-day refresher course. The course reviews film development techniques, creating contact sheets, darkroom equipment and making enlargements. Bring an exposed roll of black and white film or processed negatives to class. Tuition covers paper and chemistry. Tuition: $75 Getting To Know Your Camera Friday evening, 6:30pm - 10:00pm December 8, 2000 Instructor: Joe Hyde Get personalized instruction about your camera, whether it is a point and shoot or an advanced SLR. Learn the details of film selection and proper meter reading techniques. Become familiar with your camera's programs, controls and accessories. Cleaning your camera and proper maintenance procedures will be demonstrated. Tuition: $50 Photoworks Saturday workshop: Black and White Photography for Parent and Child Saturday mornings, 10:00am - 1:00pm November 4 - December 16, 2000 No class on November 25th (Thanksgiving weekend) Instructor: Julia Nicoll Develop family relationships through photography! Here is a unique opportunity for you and your child to participate in learning the fine art of 35mm, black and white photography. Through assignments, lectures and demonstrations, you will learn the basics and get a chance to share and grow with your youngster. This class is limited to five parent/child pairs.
