Photoworks is home to the finest darkroom equipment available in the Baltimore area. For color work, we are the only facility in the southeastern United States offering a Kreonite Pro Mate II color processor to the general public. Group Darkroom equipment includes: Enlargers: Size 20 x 20 ft. 10 partitioned enlarging stations with 8 Saunders LPL dichroic enlargers for color and black and white printing 2 Saunders LPL condenser enlargers for black and white printing. Each enlarger will accommodate negatives from 35mm. 6 x 7cm and will produce prints up to 16 x 20 inches Negative Carriers: Filed out and standard carriers are available in 35mm, 6 x 4.5cm, 6 x 6 cm and 6x7cm sizes Easels: Saunders 4 bladed adjustable easels in 11 x 14 and 20 x 24 inch sizes Lenses: Nikor enlarging lenses in 50mm, 80mm and 105mm Timers: Saunders digital timers for the enlargers and Gralab dial timers for print processing. Paper Safes: 11 x 14, 16 x 20 and 20 x 24 inches Contrast control and color balancing: Variable contrast filters are provided for condenser enlargers. Contrast control for variable contrast black and white papers can be achieved through the magenta dial on the dichroic enlargers. Cyan, Magenta and Yellow filtration can be dialed in on the dichroic enlargers for color print balancing. Print Processing: Black and white prints may be processed in our 4 x 9 ft.-developing sink and color prints may be transferred to our color processor in a paper safe. Developing trays in sizes 8 x 10, 11 x 17, 16 x 20 and 20 x 24 are on site. Safelights: Each station in the group darkroom has its own safelight that can be turned on or off by the user. The entire darkroom is illuminated by a common safelight that can be adjusted for color or black and white printing. Accessories: Rotatrim paper cutter, grain focusers and burning and dodging tools. Four Individual Rooms Size: Each, 8 x10 ft. Enlargers: Saunders LPL 4550 XLG dichroic enlargers. Each enlarger is mounted to the wall and will accommodate negatives from 35mm to 4 x 5 inches. The enlarging surface can be dropped down to produce large-scale prints up to 30 x 40 inches. Sinks: Each room contains a 2x4ft sink for print or film processing. Negative Carriers: Filed out and standard carriers are available in 35mm, 35mm panoramic, 6 x 4.5cm, 6 x 6 cm, 6 x 7cm,6 x 9 cm, 4 x 5 in. and 4 x 5 in. glass. Easels: Saunders 4 bladed adjustable easels in 11 x 14 and 20 x 24 inch sizes. Lenses: Nikor enlarging lenses in 5mm, 80mm, 10mm and 135mm. Timers: Saunders digital timers for the enlargers and Gralab dial timers for print processing. Paper Safes: 11 x 14, 16 x 20, 20 x 24 inches and light tight boxes for transporting mural sized paper. Safelight: Each room contains 2 safelights Accessories: Grain focusers and focusing extensions for mural printing. Color Processor Our Kreonite ProMate II color processor will accept prints from color negatives in sizes from 5 x 7 to 30 x 40 inches. The entire process takes 6 minutes, dry to dry. Photoworks is the only facility in the southwestern United States to offer color print processing capabilities at this level to the public. Film Processing and Print Finishing Area The film processing and print finishing area at Photoworks is illuminated by four banks of daylight balanced fluorescent lights for consistent print viewing and color balancing. A medium gray, 3 x 6 ft. print viewing station is situated in a well-lit area for proper print evaluation. Other film processing and print finishing equipment available at Photoworks includes: Film Processing: Patterson tanks and reels for 35mm and 120mm black and white processing. Sink: 2 x 7 ft. sink suitable for film processing and print washing with Deite Eco thermostatic water control for consistent water temperature. Chemistry: Sprint and Kodak chemistry are always on site. Film Drying: Arkay CD-80 film dryer. Print Washing: Kodak siphons or Nova 16 x 20 inch archival print washer. Print Drying: 2 x 8 ft. screens for air-drying fiber based prints. Arkay print dryer for resin coated prints up to 20 x 24 in. Accessories: Gralab timers, thermometers, graduates and a 30 x 36 in. squeegee board.
